Athletes Of The Week
Wyatt FisherOak Hills - Senior
Wyatt Fisher was nothing short of spectacular yet again in The Highlanders 2nd round 6-2 victory over Anderson on Thursday. He pitched 6 strong innings, only gave up 3 hits, and struck out 8 hitters earning another Win which puts him at 6-0 on the season. Wyatt has a .750 ERA on the season and in 46.2 innings, has only given up 29 hits while striking out 59.
Alyssa GiordanoOak Hills - Sophomore
Alyssa was a vital roleplayer for the Highlanders this season. She juggled multiple responsibilities on the varsity between outfield, catcher, designated player, and pinch hitter. She also floated between JV and Varsity to keep up on playing time to stay fresh when she was called upon by varsity. Alyssa hit .500 in the GMC and .385 overall during her 13 at-bats for the Highlanders. She slugged .700 and had a.643 OBP within the GMC. Alyssa always did what was asked. She kept pitchers warmed up in the bullpen until she was called on. She was always ready when needed and though the role was less than desirable, she always did what was asked and needed for the betterment of the team. Alyssa is a multi-sport athlete at Oak Hills and excels in athletics and the classroom. Alyssa is an active member of the National Honor Society.
Kallie WattsOak Hills - Senior
Kallie had the most unexpected performances of the week at the district track and field championships. After spending most of the year hurdling and taking part in sprint relays, Kallie decided she wanted to take a different route at districts. She is an extremely versatile athlete, with many specialties, and decided to long jump and high jump. Before the meet started, Kallie wasn't ranked anywhere close to placing in the top 4 in either event. However, she had the meet of her life by placing 3rd in high jump and 4th in the long jump! She will be competing in both events this week at the regional championship.
Zack KrogerOak Hills - Senior
Zack was the anchor leg in the 4x800 relay at the district track and field championships. During the 4th leg, his competitors were closing on him, threatening to leave the Highlanders at home next week. Zack ran the best time of his life in what could have been the last race of his high school career. He maintained the 3rd place position that his teammates set him in and helped to earn a trip to the regional championship this week.
Greg SharpshairFairfield - Senior
“Greg is a senior cross country student-athlete who has assisted Fairfield Athletics in various ways since his sophomore year including media, event setup, announcing and scorekeeping. Greg is a real team player and his behind-the-scenes work has been invaluable to our department. We wish Greg the very best as he continues his academic endeavors at Miami University!”
Fairfield Boys Track and Field TeamFairfield - Senior
“The men’s track team entered post season competition at the District Track Meet last week. On the way to winning the District Championship as a team, we qualified 14 boys in 11 different events, including all 4 of our relay teams. We also crowned 4 individual District Champions: Ethan Tyla in the Discus, Omar Shteiwi in the Shot Put and Jaydan Mayes won 2 events, the Long Jump and the 200 meters.”
Katelyn MizerMason - Senior
Katelyn is a hurdler who is also a 4-year letter winner in Track & Field and cheerleader. Katelyn has had a remarkable senior year helping her team win the League and District titles the last two weeks. Katelyn's positive attitude and great work ethic have provided our team with great energy throughout the entire season. She qualified for her first-ever Regional Championship in 3 different events: 100m Hurdles, 300m Hurdles, & the 4 x 100m Relay. During the GMC league Championship, Katelyn finished 4th in the 100m Hurdles, 2nd in the 300m Hurdles, and 2nd in the 4 x100 Relay helping her team recapture the league title. Katelyn will be attending the University of Cincinnati in the fall as well as continuing her Cheerleading career.
Kahari Land-BrandonMason - Senior
Kahari won both the District 110m (15.15) and 300m (40.24) hurdles this past week along with a member of the 4x200 relay. Kahari continues to improve as the competition increases in the post-season. He is also a four-year letter winner and leader on the Mason Winter Cheer Team.
Azariyah BryantLakota East - Junior
Azariyah has had an outstanding season for the Thunderhawks! She has been dominant all season long in the 100 and 200-meter events. She has recorded season-best times (11.84- 100) (24.49-200) in these races. Azariyah is the GMC Champion in the 100 and 200 meters. She was recently a District Champ in the same events and will be seeking Regional and State tiles in the final days of her high school season.
Boys 4 x 200 RelayLakota East - Senior
The Lakota East boys 4x200 meter relay team has attained some huge accomplishments this season. None bigger than last weekend at District. They recently broke the school record in their event with a time of 1:29.19 at the District Championships. They will be competing for a state berth at this weekend's Regional Championships at Wayne.
